Severn Waste’s “glossy brochure” presentation attempts to give the impression that it is clean and dry waste which is recycled in a completely enclosed building from which there will be no noise or any other relevant pollution.
We have visited an existing facility at Cardiff and the reality of an operational plant is very different from the rosy picture which Severn Waste try to portray. At the time, the Cardiff plant had only been open a few months.

We have since visited another facility at Reading which has been in operation for a lot longer and the wet weather made it even bleaker. Again, we found the doors permanently open and the waste was not all dry. There was litter, noise, odour, dust and rat traps. The workers in the sorting room were all eastern European and chose not to wear masks.
